APA (NSW) Member Update – Industrial Action

APA (NSW) Member Update

Industrial Action

Friday 6 October 2017

Dear Member,

APA (NSW) Executive held an extraordinary meeting today to address the NSW Ambulance (NSWA) response regarding unsafe and unhealthy workplaces around the State. The New England Zone is considered ground zero for this state-wide issue.

The APA (NSW) Executive regard the communication received as vague and it does not meet the commitments promised by NSWA. Such disregard and contempt shown by NSWA about this important paramedic safety issue is unacceptable and requires an immediate response.

The APA (NSW) have constantly led the way on professional and respectful industrial relations. This is further demonstrated by your union, agreeing in good faith to extend NSWA’s deadline to provide response with respect to this issue.  After allowing this extension, to still not receive an adequate response by NSWA is unacceptable.

As such, in the first instance, APA (NSW) is directing members in the New England Zone only to omit dates of birth and residential addresses from all medical records. This action will continue until revoked by the APA (NSW) Executive.

Paramedics have had enough of being ignored and expected to carry out their life-saving duties while working in sub-standard conditions. Infrastructure maintenance right across NSW is in dire need of urgent upgrade.

As this is a State-wide issue, we may call on paramedics across NSW to support each other without acceptable resolution by NSWA. We will keep you posted.

Still No Uniform Solutions from NSW Ambulance

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.
The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.

Paramedics take action against public sector wage cut

Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.

APA (NSW) appalled by NSW Premier plan to freeze our wages

The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
