APA (NSW) Member Update – IRC Review of Metro Changes – Delayed

APA (NSW) Member Update

IRC Review of Metro Changes – Delayed

Friday 25 August 2017

Dear Member,

Earlier this month APA (NSW) informed members that we were in the process of reviewing the changes in Sydney Metro with the assistance of the IRC and were looking forward to continuing the discussion towards the end of August.

Unfortunately, the other parties to the dispute are not able to have their representatives available to attend for some period of time and the IRC has set the next report back for 11 October 2017.

APA (NSW) has already expressed its disappointment and frustration in the delay and the consequence which is that paramedics and the community will continue to suffer without a transparent review of the changes. This also hinders discussion on how paramedics will be able to access their award provided crib breaks or be able to finish on time.

While we understand that members may be angry by the constant delays, we ask members to ensure they are looking out for each other, regardless of whether you are in an ambulance or in control centers. Your dedication to protecting the community is exemplary.

Remember to use the safety strategies as required, if there aren’t any at your station the APA (NSW) office can send them out to you.

Still No Uniform Solutions from NSW Ambulance

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.
The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.

Paramedics take action against public sector wage cut

Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.

APA (NSW) appalled by NSW Premier plan to freeze our wages

The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
