APA (NSW) Member Update IRC Update – Ambulance Chalking
Friday 30 September 2016
We were back before the IRC today with respect to this matter.
In the IRC today APA (NSW) again indicated that whilst we have not directed our membership to carry out such action, we support the right of workers to have the freedom to express their views.
After hearing the parties, the IRC made the direction that ‘on and from 30 September 2016, paramedics employed by NSW Ambulance refrain from writing political slogans on NSWA vehicles and remove political slogans from such vehicles’.
This direction is provided in accordance with section 134 (2) if the Industrial Relations Act which states:
‘Recommendations or directions during conciliation proceedings, the Commission may make a recommendation or give a direction to the parties to the industrial dispute. Failure to comply with any such recommendation or direction may not be penalised but may be taken into account by the Commission in exercising its functions under this Act.’
The matter will again be before the IRC on Wednesday 12 October 2016.
