In April 2017 we provided member update indicating the outcome of the D&D vote. That is, paramedics determined the following insurance scheme is to be implemented:
Since this time, we have been consulting extensively with the Ministry of Health and NSWA with respect to the new Award to be put in place implementing the above scheme.
We are pleased to inform you that yesterday the IRC approved a new Award, being the NSW Ambulance Income Protection and Death Benefits (State) Award 2017. The Award provides for the scheme outlined above. The scheme will apply retrospectively to 20 August 2016. That is, those that were previously entitled to a total of 2 year IP for on duty injuries (including those that have already made IP claims) will now be entitled to a total of 5 years.
During the consultation phase, APA (NSW) successfully obtained two additional clauses to be added to the Award to provide our members with security and ensure the NSWA is held accountable. These clauses are:
