APA (NSW) Member Update – Specialist Allowance for SOT Paramedics

APA (NSW) Member Update

Specialist Allowance for SOT Paramedics

Tuesday 1 August 2017

Dear Member,

In our previous member update, we informed you that SOT Paramedics did not receive a pay rate and/or allowance under the Operational Ambulance Officers (State) Award for their SOT skills and qualifications (ie. they were not paid anything extra for obtaining SOT qualifications and carrying out SOT work).

APA (NSW) and its SOT delegates advocated strongly for NSWA to provide all SOT paramedics with the specialist allowance in order to recognise their SOT skills and qualifications. The Award allows the specialist allowance to be paid to those appointed to a specialist position of SCAT, Rescue and/or other specialties as agreed by the parties. We pushed for NSWA to agree that SOT Paramedics were also a specialty that the allowance should be paid to.

We are pleased to inform you that as a result of our efforts and pressure applied, the NSWA has agreed to pay SOT paramedics the specialist allowance. Payment will commence from pay period commencing 22 July 2017. We commend NSWA’s efforts to rectify an inherent unfairness that has applied to SOT paramedics for a significant period of time. We look forward to working cooperatively with NSWA with respect to similar pay related matters in the future.

Still No Uniform Solutions from NSW Ambulance

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.
The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.

Paramedics take action against public sector wage cut

Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.

APA (NSW) appalled by NSW Premier plan to freeze our wages

The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
