APA (NSW) Member Update – StaffLink Error

Dear Member,

Despite previous media announcements regarding the success of the StaffLink payroll system for NSW Paramedics another pothole on this purported modern pathway would appear to have been identified following discussion with the ATO and NSW Ambulance.

APA (NSW) urges all paramedics and support staff being discarded by NSW Ambulance due to medical disability to be vigilant and scrupulously check their final pays to avoid being disadvantaged by the taxman.

It has been reported that either a breakdown in the reporting system or the StaffLink software fails to identify paramedics being discharged due to injury as “INVALIDITY TERMINATIONS” with the result being you receive a normal pay as opposed to receiving an Employment Termination Payment or ETP which receives concessional tax treatment.

However your accountant may not pick up on this unless the correct document is provided to them when you go to do your tax.  These concessional rates apply to owed LSL, AL and AL Loading.

It may be necessary for affected members to obtain letters for the ATO clearly identifying your type of termination and taxes applied.

Regards,

APA (NSW) Executive

Still No Uniform Solutions from NSW Ambulance

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.

The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.

Paramedics take action against public sector wage cut

Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.

APA (NSW) appalled by NSW Premier plan to freeze our wages

The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
