Wednesday 30 August 2017
Dear Member,
Last week APA (NSW) met with Sydney Control Management to discuss changes in control including the introduction of a new tactician role. The role was implemented on 14 August 2017. NSW Ambulance (NSWA) currently holds the view that the performance of the role has been ‘excellent’. However, APA (NSW) members have reported that the introduction of this role has caused difficulties for on-road paramedics.
APA (NSW) have asked NSWA to provide data which has arisen since the inception of the tactician role which shows instances when cribs have been interrupted and situations where resources have been moved without any benefit. Surprisingly, NSWA believes that this will be difficult to gain. We are scheduled to meet with NSWA to review these matters in 3 weeks.
We encourage APA (NSW) members who believe their movement has not been in the best interest of the community or paramedic well-being to provide a brief SMS to 0481 071 369 outlining the situation.
Members should also keep the APA (NSW) Safety Strategies booklet at hand. The booklet contains instructions on how to access crib breaks should it be required and a list of Executive contacts who can be reached if local management is not supportive.
Regards,
APA (NSW) Executive

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.
The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for
several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.
Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.
The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
