APA (NSW) Member Update – Work Bans

APA (NSW) Member Update

Work Bans

Wednesday 28 February 2018

Dear Member,

Members have been very open regarding their position with respect to the WWCC fee over the past month. That is, there is no objection to implementing checks to improve the safety of children but to impose a pay cut on paramedics is deplorable.

We will no longer tolerate the continual attack on our wages and our conditions of employment by the NSW Government. Across NSW, we are working harder every day and giving as much as we can to keep our communities safe only to be told that we are not giving enough. We are being forced to give up our breaks and working excessive hours. We are frustrated that our uniform is not fit for purpose, our workplaces are either falling apart or built with little concern for the work we do and that at times we can’t even find a vehicle at the start of shift. An opportunistic, de facto pay cut dressed up as a way to keep children safe is insulting and the last straw.

The deadline given to the NSW Government has now passed with no resolve. Therefore, effective immediately, APA (NSW) is directing members to omit dates of birth and residential addresses from all medical records (by using ‘unable to obtain’). This action will continue until revoked by APA (NSW) Executive.

To resolve this immediately the NSW Government must stop the wage theft that is the WWCC fee and provide us with the basic workplace conditions that any employee would expect in 2018. These include:

 Regards,

APA (NSW) Executive

The Paramedics Union

Still No Uniform Solutions from NSW Ambulance

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.

The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.

Paramedics take action against public sector wage cut

Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.

APA (NSW) appalled by NSW Premier plan to freeze our wages

The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
