Dear Member,
Implementing measures to keep the children of NSW safe is strongly supported by APA (NSW). However, requiring paramedics to pay for the cost of getting a WWCC is unfair as it is a cost related to employment that should be borne by the employer. Recently the NSW Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet, responded to demands from APA (NSW) by saying that the Government wants to “provide as much support as they can“. The Treasurer further indicated that he would be happy to consider the issue.
Although the comments made by the NSW Treasurer are positive, we will wait to hear from him. We have today written to him formally requesting a meeting to discuss the issue further.
As outlined in our previous update, we remind members that for existing paramedics, there is no requirement to apply for the WWCC prior to 31 March 2018. That is, an application for a WWCC must be in by this date but the application is not required to be finalised by this date.
Regards,
APA (NSW) Executive

NSW Ambulance (NSWA) continues to bury their head in the sand when it comes to our uniform.
The current polyester uniform, including the short-sleeved shirt, has been causing work health and safety concerns for
several members in hot and/or humid climates. This is unacceptable.
Today the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) are commencing industrial action to stand against the announced wage cut by the Premier. For months, Paramedics and other essential workers put our lives and the lives of our families at risk to look after the people of New South Wales during the COVIID-19 Pandemic.
The NSW Premier’s announcement to freeze the pay of public sector workers for 12 months is disgraceful. Paramedics and our frontline colleagues have been used, yet again, as scapegoats for this Government. We are praised as heroes for our hard work, and in the same breath served a pay cut that will ultimately send our wages backwards.
